If I specify a high performance window, does that mean that the window will also have a high-energy rating?
Yes, but they are not the same – high performance generally means lower U value, whereas Energy rating requirements take into account other factors including solar gain, and air permeability too. Window Energy Ratings also use solar energy to provide positive heat input, but this is at the expense of U value, making it higher. Most Architects are working solely with U values, whereas Energy Rating is being used in the refurbishment market.
Can a high performance window, be manufactured with simulated bars to give the appearance of a cottage style window?
Double-glazed Units no problem, but with triple glazed units the integral bars within the glass unit cannot be fitted. The effect of cottage bars can be achieved by fitting external timber simulated bars onto the outside of the glass unit.
Do I need to be aware of any special installation requirements?
These will generally be provided by the architect.
Do the windows come with vents fitted?
Vents can be fitted where required but could have a detrimental impact on the windows overall U value and particularly their air tightness.
Is the fitted glass, a double or triple glazed unit?
This will be determined by the U value required to be achieved by the architect. As a reputable window supplier, we will determine the lowest cost solution that meets the Specifiers requirements.
